The following is a list of all the ad networks and affiliate programs I use to make money online. They were chosen from this exhaustive list of 130 ad networks. I have used all the following networks at one time or another and can highly recommend them. They have proven to provide good service/support and most importantly, on time payments.

Kontera ContentLink

Kontera ContentLink allows you to make money from advertising without giving up any current advertising spots. Their technology reads your post and turns certain words into an ad. The highlighted words are double underline and an ad pops up when you hover over it. Normally Kontera requires a site have a minimum 500,000 page views per month before being accepted into the program. However, I have a partnership with Kontera that will allow smaller blogs to use their ContentLink service.

Fill out the application and enter “John Chow Kontera partnership” into the Comments field. The application is sent to my personal account representative. He will approve you based on your blog content and not your traffic level. This is a great way to use a service that is normally only available to high traffic sites.

Text Link Ads

Text Link Ads is one of my favorite ad networks. They help me make money online by selling those text links you see under “Featured Sites.” The links offer advertisers traffic and search engine benefits and readers don’t seem to mind them at all because they are not intrusive. Your link price is set by Text Link Ads and is based on Alexa, Google PageRank, number of RSS subscribers, and other factors.

AdBrite

If you don’t know what AdBrite is then you’ve been living under a rock. Bidvertiser, a CPC ad network that competes with Google AdSense. It main advantage over AdSense is its low $10 payout. You only need to make $10 in order to be paid. Big publishers wouldn’t care about this but for many small blogs that are still waiting to hit that magic $100 Google payout level, getting pay at a lower level is quite attractive.

AuctionAds

AuctionAds is one big eBay affiliate. What AuctionAds does is put all their publishers into one big “collective” to go after the higher revenue share. Publishers can leverage AuctionAds’ creative delivery of eBay’s auctions and AuctionAds’ ability to achieve the higher performance incentive tiers with the aggregate volume of traffic to make more money than they could with their own eBay affiliate relationship. Right now, affiliates will get 100% of any money they make from the system. As the collective moves up the eBay revenue share tiers, AuctionAds will start to take a cut of revenues. The goal is for you to make more with AuctionAds than directly with eBay’s affiliate program, which will be the case as the network increases its volume.

ReviewMe

ReviewMe is this blog’s biggest money maker, accounting for $2,400 of the $8,545.25 March income. ReviewMe allows advertisers to buy sponsored reviews on your blog. Review prices are based on your blog’s Alexa, Technorati and estimated RSS numbers. Publishers can set their own pricing if they don’t like the price ReviewMe set. Reviews can be positive or negative. The only requirement is the post must be at least 200 words long.

FeedBurner Ad Network

FeedBurner provides CPM ads for both site and RSS feeds. The CPM rate can be get as high as $10 and publishers get 70% of the money. However, the fill rate is pretty low. If you’re looking to monetize your RSS feed, then FeedBurner is probably the best of the RSS ad networks. To join the FeedBurner Ad Network, you must first have FeedBurner power your RSS feed.

AGLOCO

AGLOCO offers a toolbar that display advertising. If you run the toolbar, they will give you a share of the ad money. They also pay you if you refer other people to use the toolbar. The more people you refer, the more you can potentially make. Currently, my network has over 13,000 people in it and it’s increasing by over 100 per day. AGLOCO is a startup and unproven. However, since the cost of entry is zero, you can’t lose anything for signing up. AGLOCO is also the only network here that doesn’t require you to have a site.

Crystal Report or Embedded Report?

Scenario:
I need to create a simple report for my application.
The report only needs to include some data in tabular format, and some user information.
I've been looking into Crystal Report and Embedded Report today.

Crystal Report:
I guess the functionality is more powerful, and it's been a well known reporting.
If my report requires more functionality in future, then I do not need to change the report control.

Embedded Report:
I was thinking of choosing this embedded report, coz I only need a simple report.
This embedded report can be run on local mode, which it will be faster and less traffic created to request data from the server.
I only need to export function to PDF and Excel, which this embedded report was limited to only export to Excel and PDF works fine for me.

Problems:
Well, so far I have problems with these two report tools, although I thought it should be very simple.
Crystal Report:
I've tried a prototype with Crystal Report, it was fine, it's very easy to configure and format the report layout.
But, when I really want to try this in my application, I was prompted to enter the connection information. Well, I have no idea what XML file I should key in for the File Path.
Perhaps a XML format for the Class?
Well, I was just stuck here, and don't know how to proceed further.

Embedded Report:
As for the embedded report, I'm having problem too.
I have this error: "A data source instance has not been supplied for the data source..."
Well, I have no idea what to do right now.

Perhaps just take a break, and continue later.

Link Building

Hopefully you know all the basic methods of what works and what doesn't. Link farms are bad, reciprocal linking has lost it's value, and worthless links from non relevant sites do you no good at all. If you haven't heard all that before, go to Google and search for "link building 101" and read the Search Engine Watch article.

After you know the basics, you'll realize that you'll never gain any natural (the best kind) inbound links unless you have something of value to offer.

Can you help or educate your consumer? Do you have articles? Then you’d better be submitting them to the right directories, or you’re missing out. That’s still one of the best ways to get credible inbound links, but the articles have to be good too.

If not, then what else can you put on your website that will attract inbound links? What other "gimmick" or useful reason is there for someone to point their web visitors your way? What’s in it for them?

If you're a local contractor, how about assembling a decent resource center for your potential clients? Where exactly should they file their building permits in your neighborhood and how? Where should they go to complain about another bad contractor?

Have you got local links, phone numbers and addresses for all of the city and state offices they could possibly need and tried to give them good customer service before you even know who they are?

Who has the best prices in town (or shortest waits, best service etc.) on lumber and other home supplies? Could you make a good list, getting customer and employee input, then promote it on Craig’s list and in forums? Would other local sites then mention and link to you?

If you're a real estate or mortgage broker, then "mortgage calculators" and "easy home locators" have long been tools that any decent site should have, but what’s even more unique, or “niche” to your business?

Could you be a better resource center for new home owners in your neighborhood? Wouldn’t a downloadable change of address kit, a “moving your home” checklist, or city specific utility/service company info be convenient? Isn’t that something you’d tell your friend about if they were moving?

It just requires some extra thought...perhaps a survey of your existing customers would help? Look at competing websites and see what they're doing. Don't just steal their ideas... do something better! Vary or improve on another idea enough to make it your own. Brainstorm with friends, family, employees and customers.

What other tools can help your clients or customers more easily find what they're looking for, care for your products, or otherwise ease their burden of the buying experience, or ownership afterwards?

Answering that question will continue to brand your domain as a useful resource of information, and not only attract new customers, but keep existing ones and gain referrals.

Do you have reviews of your products? Why not? Hasn't anyone ever bought them before and have nice things to say? Would they send you an email and allow you to post it? You’ve probably heard the term “Web 2.0” lately. In a nutshell, (to me) that means “user generated content”.

Develop a way for your customers to post their own reviews, and then reward them with something for participation (of course you can approve everything before it goes live).

Allowing them to upload photos, or even videos of themselves using your product or service is a simple task. Everyone wants to be on the web, and this will certainly generate links to and from their friends and family. Many small businesses don’t need hundreds of links. In fact, I maintain that even just one link (from the “right” website) can really set things in motion for a domain to rise in rankings.

A bookkeeper might have developed their own helpful easy to read spread sheet for calculating their customer’s profit and loss for a business. Sometimes bookkeepers have to “dumb down” their reports for certain clients (or so I’ve heard).

A carpet or flooring store might make a square footage calculator that posts to a database, then exports to an Excel file for all the different rooms in someone’ home. How hard could that be? Heck, there could even be advertising or links in the final product..

A plumber might have tips about what type of drains go where in your home, and pictures of what fittings would go with which parts on faucets. Now there’ something I could have used recently!
To become a top search result for any subject, you are just to have to become a recognized authority on that subject. On some scale, that’s true even if you’re selling flea collars for penguins in Antarctica.

Be creative, give visitors something of actual value, and when they like it, you'll get something in return...inbound links.

Even more important, you're actually helping your visitors, which is exactly what the search engines want to do, and that's exactly why they would choose to send people your way, instead of to your competition.

Header Tag Tips

Few things can more clearly define the subject of a printed page than a headline. Think of a header tag as a headline, because that's exactly what it is.

Having a clearly defined

Header tag on a page says to the reader, and to the search engines, "here is the primary subject of this page", which will help your rankings for that phrase. Don't try to stuff too much into your headline, just chose a primary search phrase to target.

It's important to have only one

tag per page. You can certainly have multiple headlines appearing on a page, but only ONE of them should actually be inside the

tags, and that should be your primary key phrase targeted for that page.

Having multiple

tags may now actually be subject to a penalty by the search engines, and is seen in the same light as "keyword stuffing".

The use of more than one

tag used to be effective for rankings in 2004 and earlier, but near the start of 2006, the algorithms changed, and the search engines saw those multiple tags for what they really were... a slightly dishonest attempt to manipulate the search results. Use the primary subject of your article as the headline.

If you feel there are valid reasons to use multiple headlines, and in many cases there are, then use bolded text instead in the same size as the header text. Your readers will see the same thing, but the search engines will only see one

tag.

If your headline is a long one, you could consider splitting it onto two lines. In a super competitive environment, where every little bit counts, I would choose to be more meticulous, and actually split the line, with a header tag and with bolded text.

In this case, only the upper line, "Penguin Flea Collars" would be inside the

tag, and the rest of the line, "Are Our Specialty" merely bold text in the exact same size. This gives the reader exactly what you want them to see, while giving an even higher percentage of keyphrase relevance in the header tag.

*Note - Unless you're hand coding the page in Notepad, you will likely have to insert a line break in the sentence to be able to format the two parts independently, then backspace it into place. Front Page and Dream Weaver both want to format the entire line, and that gets annoying.

Could this splitting of the headline really make a difference? Well, remember, it's still just a very tiny piece of the "search engine pie". However, in my opinion and experience, yes it does, for very competitive phrases.

All other things being completely equal, I believe that the page with a higher keyword relevance percentage in the header tag would win the better SERP. Remove non relevant words from the header, and you raise that relevance percentage.

One more thing that I frequently like to do with header tags is make them an actual link too, pointing to another relevant area of the website. Doing so gives the landing page a deep link to an internal page, with the correct anchor text, prominently placed in the body of the webpage.

Of course, you may not like the appearance of making that headline a link with an underline, but avoid the temptation to manually remove the underline. Doing so somewhat defeats the purpose of making it a link, doesn't it? If the link is "really" there for your users benefit, and not just for the search engines, then of course you'd want it to be underlined, right?

As time goes on, links in header tags and in the body of the text are being given more and more ranking weight, and I do expect one day that not being underlined may be perceived as "hiding" the link, and that could lead to a penalty. For any of your client sites, or for your own that you really care about, keep your white hat on and leave the underlines in place.

Adding Relevant Content

Writing relevant content for your website is a must for increased SERPS ranking, increased website traffic and even your business’ integrity. Why create content that is useless or so stuffed with keywords that reading it makes people wince or lose interest?

If you are going to offer a website to the public, make it worthwhile. With the vast number of websites available on any given topic, you must give the reader a reason to choose your website over the competition.

If you are not skilled at creating relevant content, you can find articles in article directories that can be used for free, as long as you provide a link back in their "Aurhor biography.

On the same page, perhaps even throughout the article, you can write a few original paragraphs of your own thoughts and impressions, even if you disagree. This changes the content sufficiently, provides additional information, and everybody wins.

Many sites will offer relevant content free of charge as long as you include the anchor text back linking to the writer’s site. Hiring a skilled copy writer to create custom content for your website can prove to be invaluable- not only for your readers but for your sales volume and SERPS ranking as well.

Readers loose interest quickly while surfing the net. It is important to structure your content to keep a reader on your page and not on your competitor’s. Use short paragraphs, headings where appropriate and keep your word count between 450 and 650 words.

Determine a primary keyword phrase for each page and use it in the first sentence of your material, as well as the closing and at least three times in the body of the text. Do not overload your text with keywords in an attempt to gain SERPS ranking for that keyword phrase. Your website content should read naturally. If you notice your keyword phrase when you read your content aloud, you need to change the text.

Keep your desired audience in mind when writing your content. Attempting to write for anyone and everyone will result in content that lacks focus and contains confusing themes. Never write content solely for a spider. Search engines penalize websites that do not provide quality content intended for human readers- and if you’re wondering, yeah, they can tell the difference.

Don’t use fluff or filler to take up space on your website. Find something of use to your readers and post that as your content- just make sure it relates to the theme of your website. If necessary, do your homework, hire an expert, interview the baker down the street to find out what kind of flour works best in making muffins - whatever it takes to provide relevant, useful information.

Each page should flow naturally from your homepage, offering detailed pages on each subject listed on your home page. User friendly navigation maps labeled with catchy, common sense titles are a great way to help guide users to different topic areas of your website.

Always read your content aloud and rephrase any thoughts that sound confusing or cause you to stumble while reading them. Eliminate unnecessary words and use your text to entertain and inform your readers. If it’s not relevant, it has no place in your website content.

ALT Tag Tips

The use of ALT tags to help increase SERPS ranking is another controversial topic. The ALT tag is displayed by hovering your mouse over an image in Internet Explorer. The text that appears in the small yellow box is the result of an ALT tag in the HTML of the webpage.

Since early in 2006, most experts have been claiming that ALT tags are now useless in improving SERPS rankings in the search engines. However, ALT tags are still indexed by spiders and can be found by executing a search.

Common sense tells me that if ALT tags are indexed, then they are examined by search engines and should be created with SEO in mind. It certainly can do to you in no harm at all to continue to use ALT tags in the method for which they were intended, and that's why I still use them to this day.

Since search engines do not reveal all of the specifics of how SERPS ranking is determined, we need to examine what we do know about SERPS ranking. Relevance is crucial. All content should be relevant to your website and useful to the user. An ALT tag adds useful information to the webpage and boosts relevance.

If I am examining a website and I find an interesting image, I will hover over the image to look for more info from the ALT tag. If I hover over the image and the ALT tag displays, “BlahBlah123.JPEG”(or the location of the picture), I will not have gained any knowledge about the image and therefore the image becomes irrelevant. If, however, the ALT tag displays “Widget Company Logo by MTM Designs”, then I now have relevant information about the graphic that first caught my attention.

As a consumer, this well planned relevance speaks volumes about the business whose webpage I am viewing. It communicates professionalism since they are not only are knowledgeable of ALT tags, but took the time to use them, they are also dedicated to customers, they are not a fly by night organization, and are mindful of small details- You can communicate all of that from a tiny yellow ALT tag box!

An appropriately configured ALT tag appears after the file name and before the align indicator like so:

As with keyword meta tags, you should use keywords in your ALT tags in moderation and only if your keywords are relevant to the image being tagged. Limit your description to one or two sentences, and include two to three relevant keywords if appropriate.

Do not stuff your ALT tags with keywords! Spiders will recognize keyword over usage and give your website a lower ranking. They may also put your website on the tail end of a very long waiting list of sites waiting to be recrawled.

Dishonest SEO may pay off quickly for some, but with the risk of being banned from a search engine, it’s just not a wise decision to employ grey or black hat SEO strategies.

The Basics of Pay Per Click

Pay per click advertising can be a great business tool. It can be used to beef up traffic and get your business' name out there for a fairly low price.

Waiting around for organic search engine results to build can be painstaking, PPC offers businesses a fast return on their marketing bucks. Before you jump into PPC with both feet, you need to understand a few key principals and a little PPC jargon.

How does PPC work?

Pay per click advertising allows a website owner to advertise on search engines under a special sponsored listings section. Internet users type in a particular term or keyword and the search engine displays the results of websites that may be of interest to the searcher.

PPC lets a website owner bid anywhere from $0.10 on up for a particular keyword. When an Internet user types in a search for that keyword, the website's PPC ad is displayed along with the organic search results obtained from the actual content of the website.

Every time a PPC ad is selected by an Internet surfer, the website owner is charged the amount that they bid for that keyword.

A sample of PPC at work -

If I have a website that sells purple flip flops, I may bid on keywords such as: summer sandals, flip flops, purple shoes, women's shoes, etc.

While bidding on a keyword, the amount of your bid determines the ranking of your ad on a search engine results page.

The keyword "flip flops" may be currently owned by my competitor's site as first ranking for $0.12 per click. If I want that first rate spot, I need to bid $0.13 and see if the competition outbids me.

If I am willing to settle for a ranking that will show on the first one or two pages of results, I can bid less and still be ranked for that particular keyword and be seen by potential customers. In this way, PPC ads are an inexpensive and effective advertising tool. They can be used to gain exposure for your business or website.

Getting in the know: a lesson in PPC related jargon.

PPC- pay per click - This is a marketing strategy where a website owner bids on keywords that determine when an ad for the website will be displayed. The owner pays for each visit to the website that comes form these ads.

Keyword - This is the search term typed into a search engine by a consumer to locate information, services or products.

ROI - return on investment. This is the amount of money gained by a company by investing in PPC ads. This is the bottom line value of how successful the PPC ad is.

CTR- click through rate. It refers to the number of times your PPC ad was displayed in proportion to the number of actual clicks the ad received. Better ads receive higher CTRs.

Click Each time a user selects a link to a website by using the sponsored ad, a click is generated. This is referred to a click because the visitor clicks the mouse over the desired link, the consumer interacts with the ad.

CPC -cost per click. CPC refers to the monetary value that each user click costs the sponsoring website's company.

Above the Fold This term refers to the portion of the website that is initially viewed without scrolling down or to the right. This is prime real estate for ads.

Click fraud - This term refers to clicks made on your PPC ads that are not made to honestly explore the listed website. Your competitors may click your ads to drain your budget so that they may get keywords at a lower price.

Website owners that host your PPC ads may fraudulently click on those ads to generate revenue for themselves. Click fraud occurrence has been estimated to be as high as 20%. It is an unavoidable part of PPC advertising. Many PPC search engines have instituted programs to identify and stop PPC fraud. If you suspect click fraud, you can report it to your PPC search engine for investigation.

Landing page - A landing page is a website page that consumers are directed to when clicking on your PPC ad. This is not the same thing as your homepage. Most website owners create specialized pages for their PPC ads to be directed to. These landing pages are not filled with distracting information and provide the details promised in the PPC ad copy.

Keyword bid - This is the highest dollar or cent amount that you are willing to pay every time a visitor uses a PPC ad to reach your website. It is important to keep these price as low as possible to avoid receiving a PPC bill that your budget cannot afford.

You are not going to make fortune at the beginning of blogging.
One needs patience, constant effort and constant optimization.

How to make/earn money by blogging?

- Part 1

I have faced questions from many bloggers in forums about how to make a blog successful or many bloggers have doubt of "can one really make money by blogging and how to do that?"

So I intend to start a series about blogging. You can call it blogging lesson. I am not going to say here that after reading this post, you are gonna make 100´s or 1000´s of U.S. dollars by blogging. But I can guarantee that one can make at least 50-100$ per month after a month of blogging.

What is blog?

Wikipedia defines blog as "A blog is a user-generated website where entries are made in journal style and displayed in a reverse chronological order".

A blog can be about anything. It can be a simple collection personal photos to reviewing about technical products.

How to start a blog?

Before starting a blog, first decide about the subject in which your blog contents will be. The most difficult thing for a blogger is getting or writing contents for his/her blog.

My suggestions would be, "Choose a topic in which you are really familiar with". Either you can be working on that field or you can have tremendous interest on that field.

If your blogs content is gonna be about something you are really familiar with, blogging is going to be easy for you.

There are many free blog providers. But the most famous free blog providers are "blogger" and "wordpress".

Blogger is the best choice for the beginners. One can consider changing to wordpress after few months of blogging. Because, blogger provides the best interface for beginners and to change your template or edit your template, one doesn't need to pay anything. But with free wordpress one cant edit their html.

Once you get familiar with blogging, you should think of moving your contents to wordpress ( I do not mean wordpress free account here). Because the paid service in wordpress provides many facilities, plug ins.

So, blogger is the best choice for a beginner and I assume that you want to start your blog in blogger.

Once you have decided to start a blog in blogger, visit the web page of blogger and create a blog. One needs google account to start a blog in blogger. Starting a google account is quite simple one. I assume that these things are easy for you and so skipping these things.

So, now you have created a blog in blogger and you can also write your first post.

What should I do now?

1. Start writing more posts. Write at least 15 posts before trying to bring traffic.

2. Keep in mind to give good title to each of your post. Because search engine spiders normally give more importance to post titles.

3. After writing at least 15 posts, try to get inbound links from other related blogs. Do link exchanges only with the blogs that are closely related to your blog content.

4. Try to develop interior linking of your posts. Interior linking means, linking one post from another post from your blog. But don't overdo it.

5. Also when it is necessary, give some useful outgoing links.

6. Submit your blog to Google at http://www.google.com/addurl.html.

7. Submit your site to relevant directories such as the Open Directory Project and Yahoo!, as well as to other industry-specific expert sites.

What about monetizing or tell us how to get money from our blog?

Start an account in google´s adsense and submit your blog for reviewing. Google normally take 1-2 days for reviewing your blog. Read more about adsense basics.

Once your blog is accepted, start pasting adsense ad code in your blog.

But I would advice bloggers to paste adsense ad code after having enough content (10-15 posts) and also after the blog starts to get at least 30-40 visitors per day.

Earn by Clicking on Ads

The website I will be discussing today is Adbux. This website may be one of the most simple websites there is to earn money. You can literally start earning within 30 seconds of visiting
the site. It is very simple.

All you have to do to earn is click on the list of websites they have listed. You will have to view each website for at least 15 seconds. For each website you view, you will earn $0.01. It doesn't seem like a lot, but it adds up.

The way to earn a lot of money from this site is to get some referrals. Most of the websites that pay you to do something will pay you a percentage of what your referrals make, but not this one. They pay you $0.01 for every website your referral views, which means you earn EVERYTHING that they do.

This site is new, and there are currently only 400 members, so if you get in now, it should be EXTREMELY easy to get a handful of referrals and start earning. I think this site is going to blow up very soon. I said the same thing about Slash My Search when I joined as member number 397 and now there are almost 30,000 members and it hasn't even been 2 months.

So just to give you an example of how much you could make on this site, lets say that you click on 50 ads a day and you get 10 referrals who also click on 50 ads per day...
You would make $0.50 per day from your efforts and $5 a day from your referrals' efforts, which would equal $5.50 per day. This would be equal to earnings of $38.50 per week, $165 per month, or $2007.50 per year!
And that is only if you get 10 referrals. Imagine how much you could make if you had hundreds of referrals!

I wish I could write more about this opportunity, but it really is that simple.

So, now that my blog has some content on it, my traffic is starting to increase a bit. I have noticed a steady increase on the money I am earning from advertisements on my blog and also in the number of referrals I have to all of my programs.

By creating a blog, you can earn a substantial amount of money from advertising revenue. The advertisers that I have made the most money with is Bidvertiser. With Bidvertiser, you can make a lot of money from your Website or Blog. With only 12 clicks on my ads, I have earned $6.74! This is great because you can request payment once you earn more than $10. Another reason to create a blog is to get referrals for programs that you participate in. I have gotten hundreds of referrals from my blog and it has only been a month since I started. You don't even have to have a very active blog, as long as what you do post is good content. There are many websites out there that are very good at guiding you to create a succesful blog. My friend Daryl's site is one of my favorites. You can start a great blog for free with blogger. I'd suggest getting a domain name though, because it just makes your blog unique and easier to remember.
